Answers To Winston-Salem Trivia
1. An Art-O-Mat, created by Clark Whittington in 1997, is a converted “upcycled” cigarette machine that dispenses artwork. The average cost of each piece of art created by artists and dispensed is $5. Of that amount, 50% goes to the artist. Most machines are in Winston-Salem, but you can find more than 200 worldwide. Some places they are located here are Krankie’s, Artwork Gallery, Brookstown Inn, Foothills Tasting, Mojito Latin Soul Food, and Delurk Gallery. See if you can find more.
2. It is called Camel City in reference to its tobacco history, specifically R J Reynold’s cigarette brand, Camel’s.
3. Yes. Winston-Salem has both a Cowboy Museum and an Archeology Museum. See our article about museums for information.
4. The Old Salem Coffee Pot can hold 11,840 cups of coffee. I wonder who figured that out!
5. What’s unique about the Winston-Salem & Forsyth County Arts Council is that it was the first Arts Council in the nation and is the model for all others created since. This is one of the reasons we are known as the City of Arts and Innovations.
