Dewey’s, established in 1930, has been dedicated to crafting timeless classics like Moravian Cookies and Sugar Cake. This renowned bakery proudly offers a delectable selection of cake squares, pastries, dessert bars, and homemade ice cream. Whether you’re celebrating a birthday, wedding, or any special event, Dewey’s is the go-to destination for indulgent cakes made with love. Remember to mark your calendars because Mondays at Dewey’s mean free cake squares for all!

History

Founded in 1930 in downtown Winston-Salem, Dewey’s became known for their beloved Moravian Cookies. As the bakery thrived, WWII posed unexpected challenges due to sugar rationing. However, the incredible community stepped forward, offering to bring a cup of sugar with their cake orders to ensure the bakery’s sweet treats remained plentiful.

Tragedy struck in 1955 when a devastating fire engulfed the bakery on Easter Monday. Yet, the resilient spirit of Winston-Salem quickly rallied together, offering temporary baking facilities and a helping hand to ensure the bakery’s speedy recovery. That same year brought new beginnings as the bakery found a new home in the Thruway Shopping Center. It’s now the sole original business that continues to flourish today.

Innovation has been a recurring theme throughout the years. In 1960, they unveiled a captivating flavor – the Meyer Lemon cookie. With its grated lemon zest and cold-pressed Meyer Lemon oil, it became an instant hit among adoring fans. Dewey’s also introduced other cookie flavors like Triple Ginger, Toasted Coconut, Salted Caramel, and Brownie Crisp.
