Live music will be playing, bringing an upbeat mood to the celebration. The children will be dancing some of the traditional Greek dances, perhaps the Sirtaki, known also as Zorba’s Dance from the film Zorba the Greek. It is a group dance with the dancers holding each other’s shoulders in a line or circle formation. The Kalamatianos, a popular Greek dance, may also be presented. It is performed with the dancers holding hands in a circle and moving counterclockwise. The lead dancer does not hold the second dancer by the hand, instead they hold either side of a handkerchief. This is done so they have more freedom to perform the elaborate steps they must do. This dance expresses happiness and joy. Children from Kindergarten through Seniors and adults will perform. You can see a schedule of times here.

Kathy Solarino

I am originally from New Jersey but now call Winston-Salem home. I am blessed with 3 sons, their wives, and five grandchildren. My husband is deceased, but I gained his two sons, their wives, and four additional grandchildren. I fell in love with Winston-Salem because of the beautiful area, the arts, the music, and the people. It's a city with a heart and soul.
