Many new restaurants have opened in Winston-Salem within the last year, adding to our many fine-eating establishments. Some have been discovered and discussed, while others may still be unknown. Following is a list of the newest additions to our city’s culinary landscape.

Basil Hibachi

Basil Hibachi is a new restaurant located on Reynolda Road in Winston-Salem. They offer classic hibachi-style food, including chicken, shrimp, pork, steak, salmon, scallops, and filet mignon or combinations of those, served with mixed vegetables, rice or noodles, and a choice of hibachi, teriyaki, or spicy teriyaki. Casa Blanca

Casa Blanca Is a newly opened restaurant featuring Mexican cuisine on the north side of Winston-Salem in Summit Square near Sam’s Club. The restaurant has a warm and casual atmosphere and delicious food. The staff is welcoming, friendly, and efficient. They are open for lunch and dinner and serve authentic Mexican classics like Street Tacos, Burritos, Chile Rellenos, Fajitas, Seafood, Steak, Tamales, Chalupas, and Enchiladas. They have Lunch Specials for $8 between 11am – 2:30pm.

City Barbecue

City Barbecue, located on Jonestown Road, “is where the smoke is.” Their beef brisket has been know to be smoked for up to 18 hours, making it tender and juicy. They also serve pulled pork, bone-in chicken, smoked sausage, turkey breast, St Louis cut ribs, and homemade sides. Dine in or carry out.

Hungry Palate

Hungry Palate just introduced a new menu featuring lots of favorites. They have entrees like Sesame Chicken or Shrimp, Fried Pork Tenderloin, Salmon Rice Bowl, or Veggie Rasta Pasta. They also have salads, jumbo wings, burgers and dogs, flatbreads, and sandwiches, including French Dip, Beef and Cheddar, Shrimp Po Boy, and Meatball Hoagie. And Tacos for Taco Tuesday!

Irie Plates Restaurant & Bar

Irie Plates is a new Jamaican restaurant that brings the Caribbean flavors and vibe to Winston-Salem. The vibrant colors on the walls and the tropical music set the mood for the delicious cuisine. You will enjoy Jerk Chicken, Oxtail, Curry Goat, Irie Vegan Medley, Garlic Shrimp, Honey Hot Salmon, and more. Add a tropical drink or cold beer to complete the meal. The term Irie in Jamaica expresses a feeling of all-around goodness and happiness, and that is what this restaurant hopes to bring.

K Stop Winston-Salem

K Stop, a restaurant that features Korean street eats, just celebrated its first anniversary in Winston-Salem. They feature K-Dogs, a traditional Korean-style corn dog, on their menu. They can be all beef coated in panko and fried, half beef, half mozzarella, or all mozzarella. There are Hot Cheetos, potato, rice-puff, and pizza K-Dogs. They also sell chicken drums, Korean egg toast, rice cakes, and sides.

Kalamaki Authentic Greek Street Food

Kalamaki is a new Greek Food restaurant dressed in fresh, bright blue and white colors, with scents and tastes that make you feel like you are in Greece. The food is fresh and authentic, made with locally sourced produce and traditional Greek recipes. They feature slow-cooked gyros on a spit and kalamaki (skewers) prepared in-house, as well as Mousaka, Greek street corn, Spanakopita, Greek Salad, and, of course, Loukoumades with glazes and toppings.

Konnichiwa of Winston-Salem

Konnichiwa, a new Japanese restaurant on E Hanes Mill Road, has received great reviews, especially for its Sushi. It has a pleasant, relaxing atmosphere, though it is a shopping center restaurant, a nice place to dine in. They feature a large variety of sushi rolls, all described as fresh and tasty. They offer hibachi, bento boxes, and appetizers that have been well-liked. The service has consistently been described as warm, friendly, and fast.

Little Ari’s Japanese Kitchen

Little Ari’s promises, “Awesome hibachi with just a short wait.” From the owners of Arigato Japanese Steak and Seafood House, Little Ari’s has many of the same dishes in a casual atmosphere. It is counter-service even for dine-in, but reviews say the food and portions are good, and the prices are fair.

Luna Playa Taqueria And Bar

Luna Playa brings the tastes of the southern Pacific Coast of Mexico using the freshest in season and local ingredients. Their menu features tacos, enchiladas, tortas, burritos, fried quesadillas, sopes, salads and freshly made salsas.

Miam Breakfast House

Miam means “Yum” in French, and this new restaurant lives up to its name. Open daily for breakfast and brunch, using only fresh ingredients. They serve egg dishes, omelets, pancakes, benedicts, specialty breakfasts, and healthy choices. They also have soups, salads, burgers, sandwiches, and light meals. It’s the place to go to start your day off right.

Panda Buffet

A new Chinese restaurant, Panda Buffet, opened recently off Hanes Mill Road and there have been some great reviews. They feature hibachi, seafood, and sushi. The restaurant has a wide selection of dishes. Some reviewers mentioned that the sushi was very good, and many complimented the cleanliness and service. There were some negative remarks regarding seasoning and temperature of a dish, but it is a new restaurant and they are still adjusting. It is an all you can eat buffet and a wonderful way to try many different types of Asian food. They have lunch and dinner prices, and higher Friday night, Saturday, Sunday and holiday prices. There are lower prices for children.

Que Viva! Latin Street Grill

Que Viva! took their food truck to a brick-and-mortar building on Jonestown Road, where Tre Nonne was once located. The atmosphere is pleasant, the service is good, and the food is delicious! My only complaint is that I would like a printed menu, not just the one on the wall. I want to return and try the Chiccharon and avocado in an arepa!

Sage & Salt Bistro

Sage & Salt opened last year in Willow’s old space with a new look and menu. They are Modern American Cuisine with a Twist and are open for lunch and dinner. Lunch offers soups, salads, a mushroom, salmon and beef burger, and sandwiches. Their dinner menu includes fish and beef from the wood-fired grill, two pasta dishes, roasted chicken, pan-seared salmon, a burger, and beef fillet dishes.

Spotted Cow Steakhouse is a new restaurant in downtown Winston-Salem offering fare to satisfy every steak-lovers pallet. It features quality and affordability in a family-friendly, cozy atmosphere. The menu includes starters, soup, salad, rib eye, pork porterhouse, baby back ribs, Rodeo Chicken, mahi mahi, Maine lobster tails, and more.

Sushi Rosé

Sushi Rosé is a new restaurant scheduled to open soon in the Innovation Quarter. Serving Japanese-Peruvian fusion, known as Nikkei cuisine, it will be a unique addition to Winston-Salem. Their soft opening with reservations only is scheduled for May 18-19. May 21-22 is a Soft Opening. May 25-26 is the Grand Opening. They have a dress code and age restrictions so be sure to see their website.

The Downtown Grille

The Downtown Grille, still relatively new in Winston-Salem, has established itself as a fine dining restaurant serving delicious meats and seafood with excellent service. Their menu features small plates and starters such as octopus, croquettes, and shrimp pasta. Entrees include Rib Eye, Lamb Loin, Grilled Salmon, and Short Ribs.

The Old Salem Tavern Restaurant

The Old Salem Tavern Restaurant plans to reopen later this year. The building owned by Old Salem Inc. was sold to RSS Properties, Inc., which has begun renovations. They will be renovating the kitchen, the outdoor dining area, and the restaurant parking area. We will keep you updated about the tavern’s progress and reopening. This is a dining establishment Winston-Salem is pleased to see returning.

Timmy’s Hot Chicken

Timmy’s Hot Chicken brings Nashville-style hot chicken to Winston-Salem. They have found the perfect blend of heat and flavor with chicken that satisfies those wanting medium, hot, very hot, or hellfire. The chicken is battered and fried to perfection and available as wings, tenders, boneless thighs. Cod is also available. Sandwiches made with chicken or Beyond Meat are served on a buttered Hawaiian bun. Take the Timmy’s Challenge. Eat one order of hellfire wings, in 10 minutes or less, with no drink and get your name on the wall of winners.
