Many restaurants and bars in Winston-Salem allow dogs to accompany customers. We are a very pet-friendly city. But Tucker’s Tap Yard is one of a kind! It is the first and only off-leash indoor/outdoor dog park and bar in the city, and it is right on Liberty Street in Industry Hill! This place may sound too good to believe to a dog person, but it’s true. You can sit and enjoy a cold draft beer and conversation, and your best friend can romp with some newfound fur friends!

This fantastic concept came from Kim and Cole Parsons’ vacations with their new, adorable little beagle puppy. They would look for pet-friendly bars to have a cold beer. They found some off-leash dog park bars in their travels and determined that Winston-Salem needed one just like that. So Tucker’s Tap Yard was born, named after their first pup and CFO (Chief Fun Officer) with floppy ears, Tucker. They have designated it “a place where ‘Pups Play and Friends Stay.'”

The Dog Park

Most importantly, the dog park! It has over 12,000 square feet of open space, securely fenced and covered with artificial turf. There are fun structures to climb on, temperature-controlled indoor space, and trained ‘Yard Rangers” to monitor play (not that you won’t be watching your pup having the time of their life!). There is plenty of room for zoomies, and Tucker’s provides fresh ice water for the pups to keep them hydrated. They even have a separate small dog area for those who prefer it. An exterior, covered patio and tables with umbrellas allow you to sit and enjoy the outdoors with your dog. All dogs must be friendly with other dogs and humans. One of the comments most often repeated in reviews is how clean the dog park and facilities are. There are stations in the yard, and you pick up after your dog and spray the area, but this is overall a well-tended, properly maintained establishment. A great place for you and your dog!

The Bar

Also Important is the bar! Large and comfortable with TVs, their Draft Wall has 12 taps that alternate mostly North Carolina beers and usually one cider from Downeast Ciders. They also serve canned beer and wine by glass or bottle, traditional or craft cocktails, cider, seltzers, soft drinks, coffee, tea, and mocktails. Drink prices are reasonable, and they have drink specials regularly. The bartenders are knowledgeable, and the staff is very friendly. They don’t serve food, but you are welcome to bring in your own or order from one of the food trucks they have on-site almost daily. See what food trucks they will be hosting on their Facebook page. Don’t forget they have outdoor seating, too.

Recommendations For Going

Before going to Tucker’s or any dog park, be sure your dog is socialized and gets along well with other dogs and people. Most dogs exposed to people and dogs from a young age do very well in social situations. If your dog is nervous or very shy, they may not enjoy being together with a group of other dogs. Avoid a busy weekend, and go on a quieter day during the week to try it out. If your dog is aggressive or protective, it may not do well with off-leash running and playing. The best way to judge if Tucker’s Tap Yard will work for you and your dog would be to purchase a daily membership and try it out. Consider a more extended membership if you both enjoy it and feel you would use it.

A Helping Hand For Dog Owners

It isn’t easy when you have to be away from your fur-baby for an extended period at work, an overnight conference, or a vacation. If you have no available friends or family to take care of your pet, it might mean you have to have to board them. There is another option. See our article about pet sitters and dog walkers and determine if their services would work for you. Your pup could stay home and be cared for without the stress or disruption of going to a boarding facility.
