Ice cream is one of America’s most popular desserts, and it’s no wonder! Everyone loves the creamy, sweet taste and has a favorite flavor. We all know we can get ice cream at Cold Stone Creamery, Baskin Robbins, Dairy Queen, or Dippin’ Dots at the mall, though I wonder if that qualifies as ice cream, even though the kids love it! But did you know there are numerous shops around Winston-Salem selling ice cream, frozen yogurt, gelato, Italian ice, and frozen novelties? We were surprised there were so many! Here is a list of places to visit and try their frozen treats.

Bella’s Ices And Ice Creams
Bella’s is a cute little ice cream shop serving homemade Italian ice, ice cream, and gelato. They have many flavors of both ice and ice creams to choose from. They are dog-friendly and have outdoor seating.

Cafe Gelato
Established in 2005, Cafe Gelato on Reynolda Road is the oldest gelato shop in Winston-Salem. In addition to traditional Italian handmade gelato and sorbet, they offer coffee and wine. They make their own gelato in-house, as does their second location, so each may have different flavors.

Cafe Gelato And Boba Tea
Cafe Gelato’s second location, located on S. Hawthorne Road, also makes traditional Italian homemade gelato and sorbet and offers coffee. They also feature Boba Tea, Fruit Tea, Infusion Tea, Boba Floats, and Blends. The gelato is made in-house, so flavors may vary from the other store.

Chill Nitro Creamery
Not just a kid’s ice cream store! Chill Nitro can serve ice cream with a kick. Offering ice cream, sorbet, dairy-free ice cream, and milkshakes, they mix it, freeze it, and even spike it (if you choose) right in front of you. Handmade and flash-frozen with liquid nitrogen, it is an experience. Their flavors include Nutella, Butter Pecan, Pumpkin Pie, Choco Peanut Butter, NY Cheesecake, and more. All flavors are available with or without alcohol. They also serve hot chocolate and espresso beverages – lattes, mochas, cappuccinos – with or without ice cream or alcohol.

Chilly Philly
Chilly Philly’s (Philadelphia Original Water Ice) has a saying, “They add the flavor, we have the flavor.” They suggest you check them out to discover what flavor of ice you like best. They also serve Hershey’s ice cream and, occasionally, Philly pretzels. They have begun their fall hours. We will update with summer hours.

Cupcake Cuties Cafe & Bakery
In addition to their bakery items, Cupcake Cuties offers Ice cream, milkshakes, floats, and sundaes made with 24 creamy, delicious flavors of ice cream from Hershey’s and Homeland Creamery. You might even want to try a banana split or a brownie sundae! In the cooler weather, enjoy the hot chocolate bar with all the toppings, or visit the espresso bar for a latte or cappuccino.

Dairio
Dairio is more than just hot dogs and hamburgers! They have a great ice cream selection featuring many flavors of hand-scooped ice cream and sherbet, as well as soft serve. Try their Banana Pudding, Blueberry Cobbler, Fly Fishing Fudge, or Peanut Butter Caramel Cookie Dough. You can have it served in a cup, cake cone, sugar cone, or waffle cone. They also have toppings, dipped cones, shakes, sundaes, flurries, and floats. There are two locations in Winston-Salem.

Dewey’s Bakery
Dewey’s Bakery is famous for its cakes, but it also serves Blue Ridge Ice Cream. They have a variety of flavors available in cups or cones. Their newest item is The Dewzy. It’s a fantastic combination of cake, ice cream, fillings, and toppings in a cup topped with whipped cream and a Moravian cookie. It’s an explosion of flavor in your mouth! Try a Boston Cream, Caramel Turtle, or Ultimate Chocolate Dewzy.

Kilwins
Kilwins has been making its own “super-premium” Original Recipe Ice Cream since 1985. This rich, high-quality treat, known for its creamy consistency and delicious rich texture, is only served in Kilwins stores. Flavors include Blueberry Waffle Cone, Butter Pecan, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Toasted Coconut, Georgia Peach, and Mackinac Island Fudge. It is served in hand-made waffle cones.

La Princesa Frozen Treats
La Princesa offers ice cream scoops and Mexican treats such as paletas, esquimos, and raspados. They serve frappes, sundaes, and fresas con crema. They also have weekly specialties not found on their menu. Everything served is made to order, handcrafted, using real, fresh, quality ingredients.

Mayberry Ice Cream
A restaurant and an old-fashioned Ice Cream Parlor, Mayberry has many flavors to choose from, including sherbets and two sugar-free ice creams. Try their Cherry Vanilla, Cotton Candy, Mocha Almond Fudge, or Sea Salt Caramel. They make specialty sundaes, milkshakes, ice cream sodas, and banana splits. They have two locations in Winston-Salem.
